Synopsis – What to Expect from “Them That Follow”
Them That Follow is a gripping drama set in a remote Appalachian community. The movie follows Mara (Alice Englert), a young woman who is part of a Pentecostal sect led by her father, Pastor Lemuel (Walton Goggins). The sect has a unique tradition: they handle poisonous snakes as part of their religious ceremonies.
Mara is preparing for her own ceremony, but she finds herself torn between her faith and her growing feelings for Augie (Thomas Mann), a newcomer to the sect who is not a believer. To make matters worse, Augie is the son of Mara’s father’s most trusted follower, Asa (Jim Gaffigan).
Mara’s struggle to reconcile her faith with her feelings for Augie is complicated further by the arrival of an outsider, a documentary filmmaker named Olivia (Keri Russell). As Mara’s faith is tested, secrets are revealed and tensions rise between her and her father.
The movie culminates in a dramatic climax as Mara must make a difficult decision between her faith and her love for Augie. Them That Follow is a powerful and intense drama about faith, love, and the power of family.
