Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Young Victoria”
The Young Victoria is a 2009 British period drama film directed by Jean-Marc Vallée and written by Julian Fellowes. The film stars Emily Blunt as Queen Victoria, Rupert Friend as her husband Prince Albert, and Paul Bettany as Lord Melbourne.
The film follows the early life of Queen Victoria, from her accession to the throne in 1837 to her marriage to Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in 1840. It is a romanticised account of her life, focusing on her relationships with her prime minister Lord Melbourne and her husband Prince Albert.
The movie begins with the death of King William IV, leaving his 18-year-old niece, Victoria, as the heir to the throne. Despite her age, Victoria is determined to take control of her own destiny and refuses to be manipulated by the powerful men around her. She is advised by her uncle, King Leopold I of Belgium, and her mentor, Lord Melbourne, who is her Prime Minister.
Victoria faces opposition from her mother, the Duchess of Kent, and her half-sister, Princess Feodora of Leiningen, who are both vying for influence over the young queen. Victoria is also pressured by the Tory Party, who want her to marry Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
Victoria and Albert eventually fall in love and marry, and together they face the challenges of ruling the British Empire in the turbulent 19th
