Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Woman in Green”
The Woman in Green is a classic 1945 thriller directed by Roy William Neill and starring Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes and Nigel Bruce as Dr. Watson.
The movie begins with a series of mysterious deaths. All of the victims were wealthy, middle-aged women who were found with a piece of green cloth clutched in their hands. Scotland Yard is stumped, and Inspector Lestrade (Henry Daniell) turns to Sherlock Holmes for help.
Holmes and Watson soon discover that the victims were all connected to a sinister hypnotist, Professor Moriarty (Eduardo Ciannelli). Moriarty is using his powers of hypnosis to force the women to commit suicide, so that he can collect their fortunes.
When Moriarty targets the lovely Alice Faulkner (Hillary Brooke), Holmes and Watson are determined to save her. They devise a plan to lure Moriarty out of hiding, and soon the two detectives are in a thrilling race against time to stop the evil professor before he can claim another victim.
The Woman in Green is a classic Sherlock Holmes mystery, filled with suspense, intrigue, and a surprise twist ending. Along with Rathbone and Bruce’s iconic performances, the film features a strong supporting cast, including Brooke as the brave and resourceful Alice, Daniell as the bumbling Inspector Lestrade, and Ciannelli as the scheming Moriarty.
