Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Wiz”
The Wiz is a 1978 musical fantasy film based on the Broadway musical of the same name. It is an adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s 1900 children’s novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, with an all-black cast starring Diana Ross as Dorothy, Michael Jackson as the Scarecrow, Nipsey Russell as the Tin Man, Ted Ross as the Cowardly Lion, and Lena Horne as Glinda the Good Witch of the South.
The movie follows Dorothy Gale, a young black girl living in Harlem, New York, who is transported to an alternate universe called Oz. There, she meets a group of misfit characters, including the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion, who are all in search of their own special gifts.
Dorothy and her newfound friends set off on a journey to the Emerald City, the home of the mysterious Wiz, who they believe can help them. Along the way, they must confront the Wicked Witch of the West and her evil minions.
