The Wicker Man is a horror-mystery movie from 1973, directed by Robin Hardy and starring Edward Woodward.
The movie centers around Sergeant Howie, a devout Christian policeman who is sent to a remote island off the coast of Scotland to investigate the disappearance of a young girl. Upon arriving, he discovers a strange pagan community living on the island, led by the enigmatic Lord Summerisle. Howie is shocked to find the islanders engaged in strange pagan rituals and worshipping the old gods. He is further disturbed to learn that the missing girl was a part of these rituals.
As Howie investigates further, he discovers the islanders’ strange beliefs and their plans to use the missing girl as a sacrifice in a ritual to ensure a bountiful harvest. Howie is horrified and determined to save the girl, but finds himself increasingly isolated and in danger as the islanders become increasingly hostile.
The movie culminates in an intense, suspenseful climax as Howie faces off against the islanders and their leader, Lord Summerisle. Howie’s faith and courage are tested as he attempts to save the girl and escape the island alive.
