Synopsis/Plot
The Voices is a dark comedy/horror film directed by Marjane Satrapi and starring Ryan Reynolds, Gemma Arterton, Anna Kendrick, and Jacki Weaver.
The story follows Jerry, a mentally ill factory worker who is living on his own in a small town in the Midwest. He has a regular job at a bathtub factory and a supportive therapist, Dr. Warren. Despite his best efforts to stay on his medication, Jerry begins to hear voices in his head, one from his pet dog, Bosco, and one from his pet cat, Mr. Whiskers. The voices encourage Jerry to commit gruesome acts, which he does with increasing frequency.
The film follows Jerry as he confronts his inner demons and struggles to make sense of his world. As Jerry’s behavior becomes more erratic, he begins to alienate his friends and family, and his relationship with Dr. Warren begins to deteriorate. He eventually finds himself in a desperate situation that requires him to make a difficult decision.
The Voices is a darkly comic look at the struggles of mental illness and the power of imagination. It is a unique and thought-provoking film that explores the depths of the human psyche.
