Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Visitor”
The Visitor is a drama/thriller film released in 2007, written and directed by Tom McCarthy. It stars Richard Jenkins, Haaz Sleiman, and Hiam Abbass.
The film follows Walter Vale (Jenkins), a widowed Connecticut college professor who is struggling with a lack of purpose in his life. When he is sent to New York City to present a paper at a conference, he discovers an illegal immigrant couple, Tarek and Zainab (Sleiman and Abbass), living in his apartment.
Walter soon finds himself drawn to the couple, and begins to develop a friendship with them. He helps them find a job and even helps Tarek get a guitar to pursue his dream of becoming a musician. As their friendship grows, Walter begins to come out of his shell and re-discover his passion for life.
Meanwhile, Tarek is arrested by ICE agents and is soon facing deportation. Walter, determined to help, hires a lawyer to help him fight the deportation. He also joins a protest group to help raise awareness about the plight of illegal immigrants.
