Synopsis/Plot
The Time Machine is a 2002 science fiction film directed by Simon Wells. It is based on the 1895 novella of the same name by H.G. Wells. The film stars Guy Pearce as Alexander Hartdegen, a scientist and inventor in 1895 New York City who believes that time travel is possible. After the death of his fiancée, Emma, Alexander builds a time machine and travels to the future to find a way to save her.
In the future, Alexander finds himself in the year 802,701 A.D., where he meets the Eloi, a peaceful humanoid species who live in a utopian society. He also discovers the Morlocks, a race of subterranean creatures that feed on the Eloi. Alexander soon realizes that the Eloi and Morlocks have been in this state for centuries and that his actions will have far-reaching consequences.
Alexander eventually travels even further into the future, to a post-apocalyptic wasteland. He discovers that the human race has become extinct and that the Morlocks have taken over the world. With the help of a time machine prototype, Alexander travels back to the present to save Emma from her fate.
