Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Taking of Pelham One Two Three”
The Taking of Pelham One Two Three is a 1974 American thriller film directed by Joseph Sargent and starring Walter Matthau, Robert Shaw, Martin Balsam, and Héctor Elizondo. The film follows four armed men who hijack a New York City Subway car and hold the passengers hostage in return for a ransom of one million dollars.
The film opens with a group of four men, led by the sadistic and mysterious Mr. Blue (Robert Shaw), boarding a New York City Subway car. Armed with guns and explosives, the hijackers take the passengers hostage and demand a ransom of one million dollars. The hijackers give the city a one-hour deadline to deliver the money, and the police are forced to comply.
Meanwhile, the hijackers are in contact with a police negotiator, Lt. Zachary Garber (Walter Matthau), who is trying to find out what their true motives are and how to resolve the situation. Garber is aided by the hijackers’ clever and manipulative leader, Mr. Blue, who is determined to get the ransom money and keep the police at bay.
