Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Star Chamber”
The Star Chamber is a 1983 American legal drama film directed by Peter Hyams and starring Michael Douglas, Hal Holbrook, and Yaphet Kotto.
The film follows Judge Steven Hardin (Douglas), an idealistic judge who is growing increasingly frustrated with the criminal justice system in Los Angeles. He is appalled by the leniency of the sentences handed down by the court and the revolving door of criminal justice. In an attempt to do something about it, Judge Hardin is invited to join a secret society of judges known as the Star Chamber.
The Star Chamber is a group of judges who meet in secret to review cases and hand down harsher sentences than the court is able to. Judge Hardin is initially hesitant to join, but he eventually agrees. As Judge Hardin gets more involved with the Star Chamber, he begins to realize the power of the group and how it can be used to manipulate the criminal justice system.
However, Judge Hardin soon discovers that the Star Chamber has a dark side. The group is willing to take extreme measures to get what they want, including breaking the law. Judge Hardin is forced to confront the moral implications of his involvement with the Star Chamber and must decide whether he is willing to use the power of the group for good or for evil.
