Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Stand In”
The Stand In is a 2020 American comedy-drama film directed by Jamie Babbit and written by Sam Bain. The film stars Drew Barrymore, T.J. Miller, Holland Taylor, Ellie Kemper, and Michaela Watkins.
The film follows Candy (Barrymore), a down-on-her-luck actress in Los Angeles who is desperate for work. In an attempt to make some money, she agrees to be a stand-in for her wealthy and famous friend, Paula (Taylor). The plan is that Candy will pretend to be Paula in public, while Paula continues to live her life of luxury in the comfort of her own home.
At first, the plan seems to be working, but Candy soon discovers that Paula’s life is not all it’s cracked up to be. She finds herself in the middle of a complicated love triangle between Paula’s two lovers, the handsome and charming actor, Blake (Miller), and the wealthy and powerful businessman, Miles (Kemper).
Candy is forced to juggle her own feelings for Blake with Paula’s feelings for Miles. She soon finds herself in over her head and must decide whether to follow her heart or stay true to her friend’s wishes. All the while, Candy must also contend with the demands of her job and the dangers of being caught in the middle of a high-stakes game of deception.
