Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Song of Names”
The Song of Names is a powerful and moving drama set in the years leading up to World War II. It tells the story of two boys, Martin (Luke Doyle) and Dovidl (Gerran Howell), who were best friends as children growing up in London in the 1930s.
Martin’s family takes in Dovidl, a young Jewish refugee from Poland, and the two boys form a deep bond. But when Dovidl is suddenly sent away to a distant relative in Poland, Martin is left bereft and confused. Years later, as an adult, Martin (Tim Roth) is still searching for his lost friend.
When Martin learns that Dovidl may have survived the war, he embarks on a journey to find him. Along the way, he discovers the truth about Dovidl’s past and the significance of “The Song of Names,” a traditional Jewish song that Dovidl used to sing.
As Martin’s search takes him to Poland and beyond, he discovers a powerful connection to his past and a deep understanding of the power of friendship. The Song of Names is a powerful and emotional story of friendship, identity, and the power of music.
