Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Snows of Kilimanjaro”
The Snows of Kilimanjaro is a 1952 American adventure drama film directed by Henry King and based on the short story of the same name by Ernest Hemingway. It stars Gregory Peck, Susan Hayward and Ava Gardner, and tells the story of a writer who reflects on his life while waiting to die of gangrene in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Harry Street (Gregory Peck) is a writer who is on an African safari with his wife Helen (Susan Hayward). While on the safari, Harry is injured and develops a severe case of gangrene. With no medical help available, Harry is left to die in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro. As he lays dying, Harry reflects on his life and the choices he has made.
Harry remembers his past life as a successful writer and his love affair with Cynthia Green (Ava Gardner). He remembers the time he spent in Paris, the time he spent in Spain, and the time he spent in the United States. He also remembers the time he spent with his wife Helen, and the time he spent with Cynthia.
As he lays dying, Harry is visited by a leopard, which he believes to be a sign of death. He also has a vision of Cynthia, who tells him that she will be waiting for him in the afterlife.
