Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Snowman”
The Snowman is a 1982 British animated fantasy film directed by Dianne Jackson and based on Raymond Briggs’ 1978 picture book. The film follows a young boy who builds a snowman one winter’s day, only to awake the next morning to find that it has come to life.
The film opens with the young boy, James, playing in the snow on a winter’s day. He builds a snowman and when he is finished, he wishes for it to come to life. That night, the snowman comes alive and takes James on a magical journey.
The snowman and James travel to the North Pole, where they meet the Snowman’s friends, the snow people. They take James on a tour of the North Pole, showing him all the wonderful sights, including the snow fairies and the snow animals. Later, they have a snowball fight and then take James to a beautiful ice palace.
At the ice palace, the snowman introduces James to the Ice Queen. The Ice Queen shows James a magical snow globe which contains a miniature version of the North Pole. She tells James that if he can make a wish and blow on the snow globe, his wish will come true.
James makes a wish and blows on the snow globe, and suddenly the snowman begins to melt. The snowman tells James that he must go home now, but that he will always be with him in spirit. James sadly watches the snowman melt away, and
