Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Sniper”
The Sniper is a 1952 American film noir directed by Edward Dmytryk and starring Adolphe Menjou, Arthur Franz, and Marie Windsor.
The film is set in San Francisco and follows a sniper, Eddie Miller (Arthur Franz), who is hired by a political boss to assassinate a mayoral candidate. Eddie is a troubled veteran of the Korean War who is struggling to make ends meet. He is offered $1,000 to take the job, and he reluctantly agrees.
The sniper begins his mission by stalking the mayoral candidate, but he soon realizes that he has been set up. The real target is a young woman who is working for the candidate. Eddie begins to feel remorse for his actions and decides to save her.
Meanwhile, the police are closing in on the sniper and they enlist the help of a veteran detective, Lieutenant McAdams (Adolphe Menjou). McAdams is determined to capture the sniper before he can do any more harm.
Eddie is eventually cornered and a shootout ensues. McAdams is able to capture the sniper and put him in jail. Eddie is sentenced to prison, but he is eventually released after serving his time.
After his release, Eddie is determined to make amends for his past mistakes. He begins a new life and eventually falls in love with the woman he was hired to kill.
The Sniper is a compelling story of redemption and the power of love.
