Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Skeleton Twins”
The Skeleton Twins is a 2014 American comedy-drama film starring Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig as estranged twins Maggie and Milo. After ten years of estrangement, Milo is at a crossroads in his life and decides to reach out to his sister. Upon reuniting, the two must confront the issues that drove them apart and come to terms with the fact that they are both struggling to find purpose and happiness in their lives.
The story begins with Milo (Hader) attempting suicide, only to be saved by a chance phone call from his sister Maggie (Wiig). Milo decides to reach out to Maggie, who lives in New York City, and the two reunite after a decade of estrangement. Maggie is married to Lance (Luke Wilson), a successful businessman, and is expecting her first child. Despite her seemingly perfect life, Maggie is battling her own inner demons.
Milo moves in with Maggie and Lance, and the two siblings begin to reconnect and share stories of their past. As they do, it becomes clear that the issues of their past are still present and unresolved. Through flashbacks, we learn that the two were once very close, but were driven apart by the death of their father, and Milo’s subsequent drug addiction.
Maggie and Milo are forced to confront the issues that drove them apart, and in the process, they learn to accept themselves and each other. They also learn to forgive and move forward,
