Synopsis/Plot
The Shape of Water is a 2017 romantic fantasy drama film directed by Guillermo del Toro and written by del Toro and Vanessa Taylor. Set in 1962 Baltimore, the film follows a mute custodian at a high-security government laboratory, Elisa Esposito, who discovers and falls in love with an amphibious creature being held in captivity there.
The film stars Sally Hawkins as Elisa, alongside Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Doug Jones, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Octavia Spencer. The Shape of Water was nominated for 13 Academy Awards, winning Best Picture, Best Director, Best Production Design, and Best Original Score.
The film follows Elisa, a mute custodian at a high-security government laboratory where she discovers a mysterious, scaled creature from South America. Elisa forms a unique bond with the creature and soon discovers that it is being held against its will. With the help of her closest friend, Giles, Elisa devises a plan to help the creature escape the laboratory and return to its home in the sea.
The film is a captivating story of love, acceptance, and the power of friendship. It features stunning visuals and an incredible score by Alexandre Desplat.
