Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Russians Are Coming! The Russians Are Coming!”

The Russians Are Coming! The Russians Are Coming! is a 1966 American comedy film directed by Norman Jewison and starring Carl Reiner, Eva Marie Saint, and Alan Arkin. The film is set in a small New England town during the Cold War era and tells the story of a Soviet submarine that runs aground off the coast of the town.

The movie begins with a Soviet submarine, captained by Captain Ivan Krosnov (Theodore Bikel), running aground off the coast of a small New England town. The crew of the submarine is in a state of panic and desperation as they are unable to contact their superiors and fear that they will be discovered by the American authorities.

Meanwhile, the residents of the town are going about their daily lives, unaware that they are about to be invaded. Among the residents are Walt Whittaker (Carl Reiner), a local businessman, his wife Elspeth (Eva Marie Saint), and their two children, Pete (Jonathan Winters) and Alison (Dorothy Provine).

When the townspeople become aware of the submarine, they are initially terrified and panic. However, Walt quickly takes charge of the situation and devises a plan to keep the Russians hidden while he and a few others attempt to contact the American authorities.
