Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Russia House”
The Russia House is a 1990 Cold War-era drama starring Sean Connery and Michelle Pfeiffer. The film follows British publisher Barley Blair (Connery) who is approached by a mysterious woman, Katya Orlova (Pfeiffer), to smuggle a manuscript out of the Soviet Union. The manuscript contains sensitive information about the Soviet Union’s nuclear weapons program, and the two must work together to get it out of the country.
The pair travel to Moscow, where they meet with a Russian contact, Yakov (Klaus Maria Brandauer). Yakov helps them to arrange a meeting with a high-ranking Soviet official, General Makarov (Roy Scheider). Makarov is sympathetic to their cause and agrees to help them smuggle the manuscript out of the country.
Meanwhile, the CIA is monitoring the situation and decides to send agent Ned (James Fox) to Moscow to keep an eye on Barley and Katya. Ned is suspicious of Barley and believes he may be a double agent.
Once the manuscript is safely out of the country, Barley and Katya must evade the CIA and the KGB as they make their way back to Britain. The two must rely on their wits and courage to escape the clutches of the Soviet authorities.
When they finally make it back to Britain, they discover that the manuscript is actually a blueprint for a new weapon that could potentially shift the balance of power in the Cold
