Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Romantics”
The Romantics is a romantic comedy-drama film released in 2010. It follows the story of seven college friends who reunite for the wedding of Lila (Anna Paquin) and Tom (Josh Duhamel). As the wedding approaches, old romances and rivalries are reignited, and the group of friends are forced to confront their pasts and their present.
The story begins with Lila and Tom’s wedding. Lila is a successful lawyer who is marrying her childhood sweetheart, Tom, a wealthy businessman. The wedding is attended by their seven college friends: Lila’s maid of honor, Laura (Katie Holmes); Lila’s best friend, Tripp (Adam Brody); Laura’s husband, Jake (Malcolm McDowell); Tripp’s wife, Minnow (Elizabeth Reaser); Lila’s ex-boyfriend, Chase (Jeremy Strong); Lila’s other ex-boyfriend, Peter (Justin Long); and Tom’s best friend, Groom (Noah Mills).
As the wedding festivities begin, old rivalries and unresolved issues between the friends arise. Lila and Chase still have unresolved feelings for each other, while Laura and Jake are struggling with their marriage. Tripp and Minnow are dealing with their own issues as well. As the wedding progresses, the friends are forced to confront their pasts and their present, and ultimately, they must decide what their future will be.
