Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Roaring Twenties”
The Roaring Twenties is a 1939 American crime drama film starring James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart, and Priscilla Lane. It is directed by Raoul Walsh and follows three friends from the First World War, Eddie Bartlett, George Hally, and Lloyd Hart, as they try to make their way in the world.
The film begins with the three friends, Eddie, George, and Lloyd, returning home from the war in 1919. They reunite in New York City and decide to go into business together. Eddie is the brains of the group and sets up a speakeasy, while George and Lloyd provide security. The business is a success, but the trio soon find themselves in trouble with the law.
Meanwhile, Eddie meets and falls in love with Jean Sherman, a former dancer. Jean’s brother, Panama, is a notorious gangster who is in debt to a powerful mob boss. Eddie is determined to protect Jean from her brother’s criminal activities, but his loyalty to his friends is tested when he discovers that George and Lloyd are involved in a smuggling ring.
With the police closing in, Eddie must choose between his loyalty to his friends and his love for Jean. In the end, Eddie makes a difficult decision that will affect the lives of everyone involved.
