Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Quiet”
The Quiet is a psychological thriller released in 2005. It follows a young deaf and mute girl, Dot, who moves in with her godparents, Paul and Olivia, after her mother’s death.
Dot struggles to fit in with her new family, as they are distant and cold. She soon discovers that the family has a dark secret. Paul and Olivia’s daughter, Nina, is a troubled teen who has been sent away to a psychiatric hospital.
Nina returns home and Dot is immediately drawn to her. She begins to learn sign language and the two become close. Dot discovers that Nina is involved in a dangerous and destructive relationship with a troubled young man, Connor.
The relationship between Dot and Nina becomes strained as Nina’s behavior becomes increasingly erratic and dangerous. Dot is determined to protect Nina, and she takes it upon herself to confront Connor and try to stop the relationship.
Things come to a head when Connor kidnaps Nina and Dot must confront him to save her. In a tense and thrilling climax, Dot must use her wits and courage to save her friend and end the cycle of violence.
