Synopsis/Plot
The Queen is a 2006 British drama film directed by Stephen Frears and written by Peter Morgan. The film stars Helen Mirren in the title role of Queen Elizabeth II, alongside Michael Sheen as Tony Blair, James Cromwell as Prince Philip, and Alex Jennings as Prince Charles.
The Queen follows the events of the death of Princess Diana in 1997. The Queen and Prime Minister Tony Blair must decide how to respond to public outcry over the tragedy and the royal family’s perceived lack of sympathy. The Queen struggles to maintain the dignity of the monarchy while Blair attempts to gain the public’s favor with a more modern approach.
