Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Prophet”
The Prophet is a 2014 animated feature film based on the best-selling book of the same name by Lebanese-American poet and artist Kahlil Gibran. The film follows the story of Mustafa, an imprisoned poet, who is released from his cell to return to his homeland of Orphalese.
As Mustafa travels through the city, he meets and befriends a young girl, Almitra. She is inspired by his words and encourages him to share his wisdom with the people of Orphalese. With her help, Mustafa begins to share his knowledge and views on life, love, death, and freedom. He speaks of the importance of compassion and understanding, and how we should all strive to be the best versions of ourselves.
The people of Orphalese are inspired by Mustafa’s words, but not everyone is happy with his teachings. The city’s leaders are threatened by the power of his words and attempt to silence him. However, Mustafa’s message continues to spread and eventually brings about a revolution in the city.
The film culminates with Mustafa’s triumphant return to Orphalese, where he is welcomed by a crowd of cheering citizens. His words, and the hope they bring, have finally brought about the change the people of Orphalese have been longing for.
