Synopsis/Plot
The Promise is a 2016 historical drama film directed by Terry George and starring Oscar Isaac, Charlotte Le Bon, and Christian Bale. Set during the final years of the Ottoman Empire, the film follows a love triangle between Michael (Isaac), a medical student, Ana (Le Bon), a Paris-based artist, and Chris (Bale), a renowned American journalist based in Paris.
The film begins in 1914, with Michael, a medical student from an Armenian village, traveling to Constantinople to complete his education. Shortly after his arrival, he meets Ana, a beautiful and free-spirited artist from Paris. The two quickly fall in love, but their relationship is complicated by the presence of Chris, a renowned journalist who is also in love with Ana.
The backdrop to their love triangle is the looming threat of the Armenian Genocide, which is slowly unfolding as the Ottoman Empire begins to crumble. As the situation in the region worsens, Michael and Ana are forced to make difficult choices about their future and their relationship.
