Synopsis/Plot
The Professor is a 2018 drama film directed by Wayne Roberts and starring Johnny Depp as Richard Brown, an English Literature professor at a small college in New England. Brown is a passionate teacher who takes great pride in his work and is beloved by his students. However, his personal life is in disarray as he is struggling with alcoholism and a crumbling marriage.
When Brown’s drinking spirals out of control, he is suspended from teaching and sent to rehab. He returns to the college with a newfound sobriety and a newfound purpose. He finally begins to confront the issues that have been plaguing him for so long and makes amends with his estranged wife and son.
As Brown begins to rebuild his life, he discovers a newfound passion for teaching and finds a way to connect with his students in a meaningful way. He starts to use unorthodox teaching methods to engage his students, and his classes become increasingly popular. However, his unorthodox methods come with their own set of complications, and he finds himself in conflict with the college administration.
