Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Prince and the Pauper”
The Prince and the Pauper is a 1990 American fantasy-adventure film directed by George Roy Hill. It is based on the 1881 novel by Mark Twain of the same name.
The film follows the story of two young boys, both born on the same day. One is Edward, the son of King Henry VIII of England, and the other is Tom Canty, a poor beggar boy. On a fateful day, the boys meet and decide to switch places for a day of fun. However, their plan quickly goes awry when the King’s men mistake Tom for the prince and take him to the palace.
At the palace, Tom is welcomed with open arms and is treated like royalty. He quickly learns the courtly ways and is accepted as the prince. Meanwhile, Edward is living on the streets and is forced to beg for money. He soon discovers the harsh realities of life as a poor beggar.
As the story progresses, Tom and Edward both learn valuable lessons about life, love, and responsibility. Eventually, they come to understand the importance of their respective roles in society and the importance of helping those in need.
The film culminates in a thrilling climax as the two boys attempt to switch back and reclaim their rightful places in the world. In the end, the boys return to their respective places in society, wiser and more appreciative of their lives.
