Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Photograph”
The Photograph is a romantic drama set in modern-day New York City. It follows the story of Mae Morton (Issa Rae), a successful up-and-coming journalist who discovers an old photograph of her late mother Christina Eames (Chanté Adams) taken in Louisiana in the 1980s. Mae is determined to find out more about her mother’s life, and travels to Louisiana to meet her estranged grandmother, Isa (Loretta Devine).
Mae soon discovers that Christina was a talented jazz singer, and learns of her tumultuous relationship with Isaac Jefferson (Rob Morgan), a local blues musician. Meanwhile, Mae begins to form a relationship with Michael Block (LaKeith Stanfield), a local museum curator. As Mae digs deeper into Christina’s past, she begins to understand her mother’s decisions, and how they have shaped her own life.
The Photograph is a heartwarming story of family, love, and the power of forgiveness. Through Mae’s journey, she discovers the importance of embracing her past and learning to forgive, and ultimately finds the courage to embrace her own future.
