The experiment is an attempt to create a cloaking device that will render a ship invisible to radar. The experiment is successful, but it has unexpected consequences.
The experiment causes a time warp, sending the two sailors forward in time to the year 1984. They find themselves in a world drastically different from the one they left behind in 1943. They also discover that the experiment has caused them to become invisible to the people of the future, and they must find a way to reverse the experiment before they are stuck in the future forever.
