Synopsis/Plot

The Pelican Brief is a 1993 American legal thriller film directed by Alan J. Pakula and starring Julia Roberts, Denzel Washington, Sam Shepard, John Heard, and Tony Goldwyn. The film is based on the novel of the same name by John Grisham.

The film follows two law students, Darby Shaw (Roberts) and Gray Grantham (Washington), as they investigate a mysterious murder in the Washington D.C. area. Shaw discovers a connection between the murder and a Supreme Court Justice, and writes a brief outlining her findings. This brief is known as the “Pelican Brief,” and it soon becomes the focus of a nationwide conspiracy.
