Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Paper”
The Paper is a 1994 American comedy-drama film directed by Ron Howard and starring Michael Keaton, Robert Duvall, Glenn Close, Marisa Tomei, and Randy Quaid.
The film follows Henry Hackett, an editor at a New York City tabloid newspaper called The Sun. He is constantly under pressure from his demanding boss, Bernie White, to make sure the paper’s stories are interesting and controversial.
Henry is married to Martha, a lawyer who is trying to get pregnant. When Martha discovers that she is pregnant, Henry is thrilled. However, his joy is short-lived when he finds out that his boss is planning to shut down the paper. Henry and his colleagues, including Alicia, the paper’s star reporter, and McDougal, the paper’s head photographer, must come up with a plan to save the paper.
The group comes up with a plan to publish a special edition of the paper focusing on a controversial story about a local politician. As the story gains traction, the paper’s circulation begins to skyrocket. Henry and his colleagues must then deal with the consequences of their decision, including unethical practices and a potential lawsuit.
The Paper is a story about the power of the press and the importance of standing up for what is right. It is a story of friendship, loyalty, and dedication, and it is a story of courage and hope in the face of adversity.
