Synopsis/Plot
The Outsiders is a 1983 coming-of-age drama film directed by Francis Ford Coppola, based on the 1967 novel of the same name by S. E. Hinton. The film follows the story of the Greasers, a gang of teenage boys from the wrong side of the tracks in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and their struggles with the rival Socs, a gang of wealthier kids from the other side of town.
The Greasers are led by Ponyboy Curtis (C. Thomas Howell) and his two older brothers, Sodapop (Rob Lowe) and Darrel (Patrick Swayze). Ponyboy is the youngest of the group and the most sensitive of the bunch, often getting into trouble with his brothers for his naivety. The Greasers are also joined by their friends Johnny Cade (Ralph Macchio) and Dallas Winston (Matt Dillon).
The Socs are led by Bob Sheldon (Leif Garrett) and his girlfriend Cherry Valance (Diane Lane). The Socs have a long-standing rivalry with the Greasers, which often leads to violent clashes between the two gangs.
