Synopsis/Plot
The New World is a 2005 American epic romantic period drama film written and directed by Terrence Malick. Set in the early 17th century, it follows the story of Pocahontas, a Native American woman, and her relationship with Englishman John Smith, and the events that shape their lives and the lives of those around them.
The film begins with the arrival of the English settlers in the New World, led by John Smith. Smith is captivated by the beauty of the land and the native people, and soon falls in love with Pocahontas, the daughter of the chief of the Powhatan tribe. The two of them form a close bond, and Smith is allowed to stay among the tribe.
However, the English settlers and the Powhatan tribe soon find themselves in a conflict, and Smith is forced to return to England. In his absence, Pocahontas is taken captive by the English, and is eventually forced to marry John Rolfe, an Englishman.
