Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Miracle Worker”
The Miracle Worker is a 1962 American biographical drama film directed by Arthur Penn and starring Anne Bancroft as Helen Keller’s teacher, Annie Sullivan, and Patty Duke as Keller. The film is based on William Gibson’s 1959 play of the same name, which was based on the life of Keller and Sullivan.
The film begins with a young Helen Keller, who is deaf and blind, living in her family home in Alabama. She is wild and uncontrollable, unable to communicate with the world around her. Her parents are desperate to find a way to help her, so they hire Annie Sullivan, a teacher with a reputation for being able to help children with disabilities.
Annie arrives at the Keller home and is initially met with resistance from Helen and her family. Annie is determined to help Helen, and she begins by teaching her the basics of communication. She shows her how to finger-spell words and eventually teaches her to read and write.
Annie and Helen soon form a strong bond, and through their hard work and dedication, Helen is able to make remarkable progress. However, Helen’s progress is hindered by her family’s lack of understanding and acceptance.
Despite the obstacles, Annie and Helen continue to work together, and eventually, Helen is able to communicate with the outside world. She is able to understand and express her feelings and thoughts, and she is able to make friends.
The Miracle Worker is a heartwarming story about the bond
