Synopsis/Plot
The Men Who Stare at Goats is a 2009 comedy-drama film directed by Grant Heslov and starring George Clooney, Ewan McGregor, Jeff Bridges, and Kevin Spacey. The film is based on Jon Ronson’s 2004 book of the same name.
The story follows reporter Bob Wilton (Ewan McGregor) as he embarks on a journey to Iraq to find the story of a lifetime. Along the way, he meets Lyn Cassady (George Clooney), a former soldier in the US Army’s First Earth Battalion, a special unit created in the 1980s to explore the potential of psychic powers in warfare.
Lyn regales Bob with tales of his time in the unit, which included experiments with telepathy, invisibility, and the ability to pass through walls. He also tells Bob of the unit’s leader, Bill Django (Jeff Bridges), and his attempts to use psychic powers to create a new form of warfare.
As Bob and Lyn travel through Iraq, they come across a variety of characters who have been affected by the war, including a former general (Kevin Spacey) who is determined to bring the unit’s ideas into reality.
