Synopsis/Plot
The Mark of Zorro is a 1940 swashbuckling adventure film directed by Rouben Mamoulian and starring Tyrone Power, Linda Darnell, and Basil Rathbone. Set in colonial California during the early 19th century, the film follows the story of Don Diego Vega, a young nobleman who leads a double life as the masked vigilante Zorro.
When Don Diego Vega (Tyrone Power) returns home to California from his studies in Spain, he finds his homeland under the oppressive rule of the tyrannical Governor Alvarado (J. Edward Bromberg). To restore justice to the people of California, Don Diego dons a black mask and cape to become the legendary Zorro, a daring and cunning swordsman who strikes fear into the hearts of the corrupt.
With the help of his faithful servant Bernardo (George J. Lewis), Zorro embarks on a mission to free the people of California from the oppressive rule of the Governor. He begins by challenging the corrupt government officials, including the dastardly Captain Esteban Pasquale (Basil Rathbone). Zorro also finds himself in the midst of a love triangle, as he must choose
