Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Man Who Would Be King”
The Man Who Would Be King is a 1975 adventure film directed by John Huston and starring Sean Connery and Michael Caine. It tells the story of two British adventurers in 19th-century India who become kings of Kafiristan, a remote part of Afghanistan.
The movie begins with two former British soldiers, Danny Dravot (Sean Connery) and Peachy Carnehan (Michael Caine), who have become adventurers and mercenaries in India. They decide to embark on a journey to the remote kingdom of Kafiristan, a place where no Europeans have ever been.
The two men travel through the dangerous mountain passes of the Hindu Kush and eventually arrive in Kafiristan. They are welcomed by the locals who mistake them for gods due to their white skin and European clothing. Danny and Peachy quickly take advantage of the situation and soon become the rulers of the kingdom.
Danny and Peachy set about to modernize the kingdom, introducing new laws, building roads, and introducing a new currency. They also set up a military force to protect the kingdom from its enemies.
However, their newfound power soon goes to their heads. Danny begins to think of himself as a god and starts to ignore Peachy’s advice. He also begins to make increasingly reckless decisions, leading to a rebellion among the people.
