Synopsis/Plot
The Man Who Knew Infinity is a biographical drama about the life of renowned Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. Ramanujan is a self-taught genius who is brought to England by a professor from Cambridge University to work on his theories. Despite the prejudices of the time, Ramanujan is determined to prove his theories and to make a name for himself in the world of mathematics. He struggles to fit in with the elite academics at Cambridge, but finds understanding and friendship in his mentor, G.H. Hardy. With Hardy’s help, Ramanujan is able to prove his theories and make a lasting impact on the world of mathematics. The film follows the inspiring story of Ramanujan’s struggle to overcome the odds and make a name for himself in a world which was not yet ready to accept him. The film stars Dev Patel as Srinivasa Ramanujan, Jeremy Irons as G.H. Hardy, and Toby Jones as John Littlewood. It was directed by Matthew Brown and released in 2016.
