Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Man in the Iron Mask”
The Man in the Iron Mask tells the story of a young man who is sent on a mission to save France from a tyrannical ruler.
In 1662, France is ruled by a cruel and oppressive King Louis XIV (Louis Jourdan). His chief advisor, the scheming Cardinal Richelieu (Patrick McGoohan), has been manipulating the King to extend his own power. But unbeknownst to them, the King has a twin brother, Philippe (also played by Jourdan), who has been living in secret since birth.
Philippe is a kind and gentle man who has been kept in an iron mask and confined to a prison cell. When the King’s musketeers, led by D’Artagnan (Richard Chamberlain), discover Philippe’s existence, they are determined to rescue him and put him on the throne.
The musketeers enlist the help of the King’s mistress, the Countess de Winter (Jenny Agutter), who is sympathetic to the cause. With her help, they are able to smuggle Philippe out of the prison and into the palace.
Once in the palace, the musketeers must find a way to switch Philippe and the King without anyone noticing. Richelieu, however, is always one step ahead and has his own plans to keep the King in power.
The musketeers must use all their wits and courage to outwit Richelieu and restore justice
