Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Man from Snowy River”
The Man from Snowy River is an Australian drama film released in 1982, directed by George T. Miller and starring Tom Burlinson, Sigrid Thornton, and Kirk Douglas.
The film is set in the Australian high country of the late 1800s and follows the story of Jim Craig, a young man who has recently lost his father. With no money and no job, Jim is forced to take a job as a stockman on the rural mountain station of Harrison, owned by the wealthy, but reclusive, Spur (Kirk Douglas).
At Harrison, Jim meets the station’s head stockman, Clancy (Burlinson), who is respected and admired by the other hands. Clancy takes Jim under his wing and teaches him the ways of the mountain, as well as how to handle the wild and unruly horses of the high country.
Meanwhile, the station is threatened by the arrival of a group of wild horses, led by a magnificent black stallion. The station hands are ordered by Spur to capture the horses, but the task proves too difficult for them. Jim, however, is determined to prove himself and volunteers to capture the horses.
Jim sets off on a dangerous journey through the mountains, and with the help of Clancy and the other hands, he eventually succeeds in capturing the horses. His bravery and skill are recognized by Spur, and Jim is rewarded with a job as a full-time stockman.
