Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Lucky Ones”
The Lucky Ones is a 2008 American comedy-drama film directed by Neil Burger and starring Rachel McAdams, Tim Robbins, and Michael Peña.
The story follows three U.S. soldiers who return from Iraq with varying degrees of physical and emotional damage. T.K., Cheaver, and Colee are sent on a road trip together to their respective homes in the U.S., and the journey takes them through a series of unexpected events and strange encounters.
T.K., the most seriously injured of the three, is a young soldier who lost both his legs in an IED explosion in Iraq. He is struggling to come to terms with his disability and is also dealing with feelings of guilt and survivor’s guilt. Cheaver is a more experienced soldier who has been awarded a Purple Heart for his service in Iraq, but he is also dealing with PTSD. He is a hard-drinking, hard-living type of guy who is trying to find his way back to a normal life. Colee is a young woman who is determined to find her fiancé who was reported missing in action in Iraq. She is also looking for closure and a sense of peace.
The three soldiers form an unlikely bond as they travel across the country together. Along the way, they encounter a variety of characters, from a tattoo artist to a former beauty queen, and they learn to confront their fears and accept their new realities while finding solace in
