Synopsis/Plot
The Longest Ride is a romantic drama film directed by George Tillman Jr. and based on the novel of the same name by Nicholas Sparks. The film follows two couples whose lives become intertwined in unexpected ways.
The first couple is Sophia Danko (Britt Robertson) and Luke Collins (Scott Eastwood). Sophia is a college student studying art history and dreaming of a career in the art world. Luke is a professional bull rider who is struggling to make a name for himself in the dangerous sport. They meet at a local rodeo and quickly fall in love.
The second couple is Ira Levinson (Alan Alda) and Ruth (Oona Chaplin). Ira is a 91 year old man who is reflecting on his life and his marriage to Ruth, who recently passed away. Through flashbacks we learn about their life together and how they made it through the difficult times.
The two couples’ lives become intertwined when Sophia discovers a box of letters that Ira wrote to Ruth over the years. Through the letters, Sophia and Luke learn about the struggles and triumphs of Ira and Ruth’s marriage, and it helps them to understand the importance of taking risks and living life to the fullest.
