Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Lifeguard”
The Lifeguard is a 2013 coming-of-age drama directed by Liz W. Garcia.
The movie follows Leigh (Kristen Bell), a 29-year-old woman who is stuck in a dead-end job and an unfulfilling relationship. She decides to move back to her hometown, where she takes a job as a lifeguard at the local pool.
Leigh quickly finds herself in the midst of a summer of self-discovery as she reconnects with her high school friends, including Mel (Mamie Gummer), her former best friend who is now a single mom. She also meets Jason (Martin Starr), a young, rebellious teenager who is struggling with his own issues.
Leigh finds solace in her job as a lifeguard, but her newfound freedom and responsibility soon become a source of conflict with her friends and family, who are concerned that she is not taking her future seriously.
Leigh’s summer of self-discovery takes a dramatic turn when she becomes involved in a dangerous relationship with Jason. As the summer progresses, Leigh must come to terms with her past and find the courage to make the right choices for her future.
The Lifeguard is a story of self-discovery, growth, and resilience in the face of life’s challenges. It is a poignant and honest look at the trials and tribulations of growing up and learning to stand on your own.
