Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Last Days of Disco”
The Last Days of Disco is a 1998 American romantic comedy-drama film directed by Whit Stillman. Set in the late 1970s, the film follows a group of young adults as they navigate their way through the social scene of the disco era.
The film follows two best friends, Alice (Chloe Sevigny) and Charlotte (Kate Beckinsale). They are recent college graduates who have moved to New York City to pursue their dreams. They both work at an upscale publishing house, but they spend most of their time partying at the local disco, The Club. They meet a young lawyer, Jimmy (Mackenzie Astin), who is instantly attracted to Alice.
The film follows the group as they navigate the club scene and their relationships with each other. Alice and Charlotte have a falling out when Charlotte begins to date Jimmy, and Alice begins to explore her sexuality. Meanwhile, the disco scene is slowly dying, and The Club is on the brink of closing.
The group of friends must come to terms with the changing times, and decide whether to stay in The Club or move on to the next stage of their lives. As the movie progresses, the characters are forced to confront their fears and insecurities, and ultimately decide what is truly important to them.
