Synopsis/Plot
The King of Comedy is a 1982 black comedy directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Robert De Niro, Jerry Lewis, and Sandra Bernhard. The film follows Rupert Pupkin, an aspiring stand-up comedian, who is obsessed with becoming famous. After failing to get a spot on a late-night talk show, Rupert kidnaps the show’s host, Jerry Langford, in order to get the exposure he craves.
Rupert is a lonely, delusional man who is desperate for fame and recognition. He dreams of becoming a successful stand-up comedian but is unable to break into the industry. He spends his days fantasizing about appearing on the Jerry Langford Show, a popular late-night talk show hosted by Jerry Langford. Rupert is so desperate for a spot on the show that he begins to stalk Langford.
Meanwhile, Rupert meets Masha, a fellow aspiring comedian who shares his ambition. The two bond over their shared dreams of fame and recognition, and Masha encourages Rupert to take more drastic measures to get on the show. She suggests that he kidnap Langford and hold him hostage until he gets a spot on the show.
