Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Invitation”
The Invitation is a 2015 psychological thriller directed by Karyn Kusama. The film follows a man named Will (Logan Marshall-Green) who is invited to a dinner party at his ex-wife Eden’s (Tammy Blanchard) house. Will is apprehensive about attending the gathering, as it is the first time he has seen Eden since their divorce two years prior.
Will arrives with his girlfriend Kira (Emayatzy Corinealdi) and is welcomed warmly by Eden and her new husband David (Michiel Huisman). As the evening progresses, Will begins to feel increasingly uneasy about the gathering, especially when he notices that the other guests – all of whom he does not know – seem to be hiding something.
When David and Eden reveal that they are part of a cult-like group called The Invitation, Will is horrified. The group believes that the end of the world is near and they are preparing for it. As the evening goes on, Will and Kira become increasingly aware that the group is planning something sinister.
The tension builds as Will and Kira try to figure out what is going on and how to escape. Will is forced to confront his past and the choices he has made in order to protect himself and Kira from the group’s dangerous agenda. As the night wears on, Will and Kira must decide if they can trust each other and survive the night.
