Synopsis/Plot
The Ides of March is a 2011 political drama film directed by George Clooney and starring Ryan Gosling, George Clooney, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti, Marisa Tomei, and Evan Rachel Wood. The film follows the story of Stephen Meyers (Gosling), an ambitious press secretary to Governor Mike Morris (Clooney), a Democratic presidential candidate. Stephen is tasked with helping the Governor win the Ohio primary, but finds himself caught in a web of political intrigue as he navigates the state of Ohio’s complex political landscape.
The story follows Stephen as he is forced to confront his own ethical dilemmas and the high stakes of political gamesmanship. As the campaign progresses, Stephen discovers that the Governor is not the idealistic candidate he thought he was, and is instead a man with his own secrets and ambitions. Stephen must choose between his loyalty to the Governor and his own sense of morality.
