Synopsis/Plot
The Hurricane is a 1999 American biographical sports drama film directed and produced by Norman Jewison. The film stars Denzel Washington as Rubin “Hurricane” Carter, a middleweight boxer who was wrongly convicted for a triple murder in a bar in Paterson, New Jersey.
The film follows the story of Rubin Carter, a world-class middleweight boxer who was wrongfully convicted of a triple murder in a bar in Paterson, New Jersey. Despite the fact that he was innocent, Carter was convicted and sentenced to three life sentences in prison. After years of appeals and unsuccessful attempts to overturn the conviction, Carter’s story was brought to the attention of Lesra Martin, a Canadian teenager who was inspired by Carter’s story and determined to help him prove his innocence. With the help of a legal team, led by defense attorney Sam Chaiton, the team was able to prove that Carter was wrongfully convicted and that the prosecution had withheld evidence that would have proven his innocence.
