Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Hunchback”
The Hunchback is a 1997 drama film directed by Peter Medak and based on the novel by Victor Hugo.
The film follows the story of Quasimodo, a deformed hunchback who is the bell ringer of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Quasimodo is treated cruelly by the people of the city, except for the beautiful gypsy girl Esmeralda, who shows him kindness. Quasimodo falls in love with her, and when she is accused of a crime she did not commit, he risks his life to save her.
The story begins with Quasimodo’s birth, as he is abandoned by his mother and left on the steps of the cathedral. He is adopted by the Archdeacon, who raises him as his own child. Quasimodo is kept hidden away in the cathedral, and he is forbidden to ever leave.
One day, Quasimodo sneaks out of the cathedral and joins a festival in the city. He is ridiculed and mocked by the people of the city, but Esmeralda takes pity on him and shows him kindness. Quasimodo is smitten with her and follows her around the city.
Meanwhile, the evil Judge Frollo is determined to find and punish Esmeralda for her supposed crime. He orders his men to capture her, and Quasimodo steps in to save her. The two of them
