Synopsis – What to Expect from “The Homesman”
The Homesman is a 2014 American western drama film directed by Tommy Lee Jones and written by Jones and Kieran Fitzgerald. The film stars Jones, Hilary Swank, Grace Gummer, Miranda Otto, Sonja Richter, Meryl Streep, and John Lithgow.
The plot follows Mary Bee Cuddy (Hilary Swank), a pious and independent pioneer woman who takes it upon herself to transport three insane women across the country from Nebraska to Iowa. She hires Briggs (Tommy Lee Jones), a drifter, to help her with the task. Along the way, they encounter a variety of characters, including a wagon master, a French-Canadian trapper, a group of claim jumpers, and a religious zealot.
